Details
The White House Historical Association has been manufacturing an annual ornament since 1981. Each year, a new design is created honoring the next President in succession. The 2003 White House Ornament highlights Ulysses S. Grant (1869-1877). The ornament includes a hand-painted porcelain figure as its centerpiece, inspired by an authentic Victorian illustration of a childs joy at Christmas. The wreath surrounding the figure includes toys available at Washingtons fancy goods stores during the Grant administration along with a steam locomotive that swings below.
